Be Realistic

You’re not a superhero with amazing strength or a Vampire from Twilight that never sleeps – you’re just one person. Be real with yourself – you can’t redecorate your entire home with only 4 hours of time to spare on a random Saturday afternoon. And that brings us to my next tip…

Break Your Goals Into Bite Size Pieces

Looking to redecorate the house? Instead of putting that giant job on your to do list, break it down. maybe the schedule looks like this:
  • Week 1: Determine your budget
  • Week 2: Pin or cut out your favorite ideas to start the planning process
  • Week 3: Purchase supplies
  • Week 4: Paint
  • Etc.

Delegate

When cleaning the house or attacking laundry makes it on my to do list, I give small tasks to my toddler as well. He can easily put away toys or wipe down the table while I put away dishes.

Celebrate Your Successes

You know what my favorite part of keeping a to do list is? Crossing the items off my list throughout the week! Nothing motivates me more than the success of a job well done – or better yet, praise from the hubs.

Post Your Goals

I love having my goals stare me in the face. It keeps them at the fore front of my mind so that the next time I have a spare 5 minutes I’ll remember to get them done.

Have an Accountability Partner

A good friend of mine helps me keep my marriage goals on track when we talk on the phone every week. My coworkers help push me towards reaching my classroom goals. Why do these tricks work? Because they give me accountability.

Reward Your Accomplishments

Do you really struggle with knocking items off your list each week? How about setting yourself up a reward program? Accomplish all your goals this week and earn a latte for example.
