Spring Into Fitness – Day 4 of “Make The Most Out of Spring”

March. The month of spring. In the north, this is the month of melting (hopefully). The month we become restless for summer. When our days get longer & nights shorter. This March, let’s make the most out of Spring.

Day 4 Action Plan: Spring Into Fitness
 

Spring is right around the corner! Finally! 🙂  No more hibernation for my kiddos who, quite honestly, dislike the cold and snow as much as me.

I try to put on a happy face when the snow comes to not influence their feelings towards it, but they have decided to dislike it all on their own.  Part of that probably has to do with their inability to move in their snowsuits, the fact that the snow is up to their shoulders so they can’t physically move through it and because no matter how well you bundle them up, it is inevitable that snow will be inside their gloves or boots within the first 60 seconds of stepping outside!  That cannot possibly only happen to my kids??  Maybe next winter they will like it, but this year, we are all super excited for longer days, more sunshine and lots of time outside – we will definitely be making the most out of spring!  

With that being said, I am BEYOND happy that my running can begin again!!  If this is your first time hearing from me (thanks for reading 😉 ) I will let you know that if you told me 2 years ago that I would grow to love running to the point that I would daydream about it…I would tell you that you are nuts! Crazy! You have gone mad! (Insert any other expression you can think of that means you are dead wrong)!  But, I can honestly say, I love running out to the point that, yes, I daydream about it.   

If you don’t believe me, you can catch up on my running history (or lack of) that I described as Running Progress last fall.  Anyways,  I was never a runner, but have grown to love it but it doesn’t work out well in the northeast winters, especially with two little ones!  So, I am planning that within the next few weeks…our little family runs will begin again!!Have you made any plans for your Spring workouts?   

First of all, have you heard of the saying, “Summer bodies are made in the winter?”  Well, yes that is true, but winter is over, so if you are like me and were hibernating this winter and lacking the motivation because of the amazing-ness of mid-afternoon coffees, yoga pants, oversized sweatshirts and eating goodies…it is time for you to jump on board with me and get to work!  Time to shed those winter pounds and tone it up!  (Yes, that was self-motivation).  

I find that designating time for myself and exercising makes me a better mother, a better wife and an all around happier person.  (There is something to be said about those endorphins that are released.) Here are a few little tips on how you can make the most out of your Spring workouts to get yourself beach ready:

  • Make a long term goal.  Something you want to achieve and by when.
  • Make a short term goal. Something you can achieve that will help you build up to your long term goal.  (You can read more about setting goals here)
  • Work out first thing in the morning, then shower, all before you start the day.  Does this mean you have to get up earlier? Yup…but give it a few weeks.  I promise you will thank me, seriously!  Sometimes that time makes me happier than my morning coffee – and I love my morning coffee.
  • No excuses!  Commit to yourself and you can do it!
