After school today, I worked the clock at a basketball game to help earn extra income toward our Debt Snowball. I’ve done it at least 6 other times throughout the school year – but I’m still learning. That hasn’t ever been so apparent as it was today.
With 1.5 seconds left in overtime, the home team up by two & the visitors in possession of the ball, guess who forgot to hit start on the timer?!?! Yep, that’s right… me! OMG! Everyone was screaming, “Start the clock! Start the clock!” and as the visitors hurled the ball towards their basket, the buzzer went off. Thank the lord the shot wasn’t even close
– I might have needed an escort to my vehicle if that shot had gone in!
I hung my head in shame at my mistake as the referees, my coworkers & the players all shared their relief over the outcome. As I (quickly) left the gym tonight I was focused on how disappointed I was in myself, but it was while I drove home that I started to see the silver lining.
I’d only looked at the situation from one perspective… the home team’s. I realized that if I’d been watching the game as a visitor, my mistake represented an opportunity. So what’s the moral of the story?
