Homemade French Fries: A New Favorite Recipe

Let me set the scene…
Hamburger is thawing to make sloppy joes for dinner and I realize I don’t have chips or fries to serve with them. What’s a girl to do? Google recipes for making them homemade of course! πŸ™‚

I realize I’m late to the game on making my own fresh, healthy fries but now that I’m here we’ve found a new family favorite!

Homemade French Fries
I started with this basic recipe and ran with it.

  • 1 large baked potato per person
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil per potato
  • 1/2 teaspoon of paprika per potato
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder per potato
  • 1/2 teaspoon of chili powder per potato
  • 1/4 teaspoon of rosemary per potato
  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees
  • Slice potatoes into 8 long chunks by first cutting the potato in half length wise, then cut each half into 4 equal slices length wise
  • As you cut the potatoes place them in a bowl of cold water to avoid browning, let them soak for 10 minutes
  • While potatoes soak, mix dry seasoning & olive oil in a small bowl
  • Drain potatoes & stir in seasoning mix
  • Grease baking sheet & spread fries out into a single layer
  • Bake 30-45 minutes (Optional: flip fries halfway through baking time for even color)
