February was month 2 of our Busy Mom’s Guide to Organizing Your House One Step At A Time, in addition to the month my husband & I started Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University after being inspired by his book Total Money Makeover.
Moral of the story is… not only am I excited to organize my house & get rid of items we don’t use, but I’m also inspired to earn a little extra money for our debt snowball by hosting a garage sale in June. That’s why I’m reading The Garage Sale Gal’s Guide to Making Money Off Your Stuff this week. It’s a great little book. Easy read & full of fantastic tips for making the most money at your garage sale possible.
Here are 2 of my favorite recommendations from the book:
- Don’t price your items. Instead invite buyers to name their own price. (I know what you’re thinking, but trust me, after you read her explanation of why this will make you extra money you’ll be convinced too.)
- Lock the doors to your house while the garage sale is going on to prevent thieves from taking advantage of the commotion of a garage sale.
By planning ahead & slowly adding items to my drop off zone, I’m setting myself up for garage sale success this summer. What advice do you have for a successful garage sale? I’d love to hear your ideas in the comments below.
