Are you or someone you know expecting? If so, you need to read this article! Our son, Easton, is 9 months old now and I WISH someone had told me what I ACTUALLY needed when he was born. So here goes…. my top 5 MUST HAVE items for a newborn baby.
#1: Boppy Pillow – If you’re breastfeeding this pillow is a blessing. It’s perfect for cuddling up to baby when you’re exhausted or propping them up when they’re larger. I would recommend buying 2 covers so that you can have a clean cover for when baby has a spit up and you need to put your cover in the wash. (But I wouldn’t recommend the “water proof” ones – they didn’t work for us at all.)
#2: Medela Lanolin – The nurses at our hospital gave me samples of Medela Lanolin when I delivered Easton, so I started using it from day one and I’m SO glad I did. I never suffered from cracking or chaffing as other moms did, and thanks to the wonderful lactation consultants at the hospital we developed a great latch from the beginning and so avoided any pain with nursing.
#3: Kissaluvs Baby Lotion Potion – We are a cloth diaper family so when searching for a diaper rash product we had to be careful to find something that was cloth diaper friendly. We found our answer & a miracle in Kissaluvs Lotion Potion. (It can be purchased as a concentrate or spray – we use the concentrate and mix it with water & witch hazel ourselves.) Not only is it cloth diaper friendly but Easton has never suffered from diaper rash that couldn’t be fixed in 12-24 hours! (I promise!)
#4: Amber Teething Necklace – Ok, I know this sounds like crazy voodoo but I swear it works. If anything its a mommy placebo! 😉 We swear by Easton’s teething necklace & he wears it daily. Its a great option for those who don’t want to medicate their child on a regular basis.
#5: Itzbeen Pocket Nanny Baby Care Timer – Our pocket nanny was used regularly for the first 6 weeks after Easton was born. In addition to being exhausted, we were 1st time parents, so we needed help keeping track of feedings, diapers & sleeping patterns. This was the answer!
