#2: Taking a Timeout
Today’s post is very personal for me, in my life, right now. I’m hoping that by sharing my experience I will help to inspire some of you to not make the same mistake or recognize it if you already are. I’ve realized that it’s awfully difficult to spell wife or mother without using I or ME.That’s ironic considering that as wives and mothers, WE’RE usually the first thing to get cut from the schedule. What am I talking about? Well, when was the last time you sat down and read a good book until YOU were ready to stop reading? When did you last go to the store just for things YOU want and need? When did you last complete a task at home that ONLY benefits you? When did you last pamper YOURSELF?
Far to often, the answer to these questions and others was no. But now I’m starting to understand that in order to raise my son to be a self loving & self respecting human being, I’m going to need to model those habits for him.
Starting today, I’m committing to taking 5 minutes each day to spend entirely on myself, without interruption. That way I’ll be able to approach my loved ones calm and refreshed.
This week I plan to take time to myself doing some of the following things:
- Read a book
- Write in my journal
Would 5 minutes of “mom time” make an impact in your lives? If so, tell us what you’ll be spending time doing during YOUR 5 minutes this week in the comments below.
